30 September 2010, 9.30am-1pm, Euston Fitzrovia, London W1T 4TQ
We are delighted to offer this new half day course, presented by government technical experts from AECOM.
Changes to the Code for Sustainable Homes and Part L1a (new dwellings) of the Building Regulations are proposed to come into effect in October 2010. This half day course will give you the opportunity to hear first-hand from the technical experts involved in these amendments how these changes will affect you, and the dwellings you design and build.
Our programme includes
Amendments to Part L1A of the Building Regulations
This presentation will take you step-by-step through the key changes to the regulations as well as the supporting technical guidance in Approved Document L1A and the new Domestic Building Services Compliance Guide. It will also highlight key changes to the SAP 2009 methodology.
Amendments to the Code for Sustainable Homes
This presentation looks at the key revisions to the Code including changes made to streamline the assessment process. In particular, it will focus on the updates to the energy section and will guide you through the key differences from the previous version.
Case studies of how to comply with the new Part L1A and the Code
An interactive session in which attendees will be taken, by the presenters, through several case studies to demonstrate the differences in the new Part L and the Code in practice. This will cover a range of different housing types and developments.
Audience
This course will be valuable to anyone involved in domestic new build: Members of the design team, architects, services engineers, contractors, development officers, surveyors, planners, building control, energy assessors and independent consultants.
Speakers
Kirsten Elder, Principal Consultant, AECOM Building Engineering - Sustainability
Kirsten has over 11 years experience of sustainability and climate change, and prior to joining AECOM in 2007, worked in local government developing strategies and policies on sustainable development and carbon management.
As a trained Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM Assessor, Kirsten has proven experience of providing design advice to a range of private and public sector clients on how to deliver schemes that meet high levels of sustainability and has worked on developments seeking to achieve Code Level 3 up to Level 6. Kirsten is currently supporting the Communities and Local Government with the consultation on the Code for Sustainable Homes and the Energy Efficiency Standard for Zero Carbon. Her role involved engaging with stakeholders to help inform proposals for the consultation document, and analysis of the consultation responses to support final policy decisions on the updated Code. She is now preparing a ‘future-thinking’ paper for the Code Advisory Group.
Tom Lelyveld, Principal Consultant, Sustainable Development Group, AECOM
Tom has seven years experience in providing sustainable consultancy advice, specifically in the areas of low energy housing design and renewable energy supply. As a Principal Consultant within AECOM’s Sustainable Development Group Tom’s time is split between work with developers both at masterplanning and implementation stages and work on policy and research for the UK Government and Government funded organisations including the Carbon Trust and Energy Saving Trust.
Tom provides advice regarding ‘energy efficient’ and ‘zero carbon’ design, Part L1A compliance, the Code for Sustainable Homes, technical advice and support for renewable energy feasibility studies, and on wider sustainability issues. Tom was a key member of the team conducting field trials of condensing boilers for the Energy Saving Trust and was part of the Carbon Trust consortium field testing the performance of micro-CHP. Tom is currently the AECOM lead for the Energy Saving Trust field trial extension considering the performance of advanced controls on energy efficiency. Tom was a member of AECOM’s Part L 2010 team and was a technical author for the Zero Carbon Hub report ‘Carbon Compliance for Tomorrow’s New Homes’. Tom delivered the CIBSE course ‘Introduction to Renewables’ in 2009.
